Protests Rise Against SP Balasubrahmanyam’s Statue

SP Balasubrahmanyam(SPB) is one of the greatest singers India has ever had. He sang more than 40,000 songs and is loved in all languages and even beyond.

Recently the TG government installed a statue of SPB at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad. But unexpectedly a group of protesters objected to it.

Claiming to be Telangana movement activists, they argued that only Telangana artists like Gaddar or Ande Sri should be honored in that place.

They said SPB was not from Telangana and therefore shouldn’t have a statue there. However many people on social media strongly disagreed. They said SPB is a pride of both Telugu states and it is sad to see people creating divisions over such a legendary artist who gave global fame to Telugu music.

One user pointed out that people from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and even Hindi-speaking states proudly celebrate SPB yet some Telugu people are rejecting him in his own region.
