Akshay Kumar signed numerous films and his producers have even locked the release dates. But all those plans have gone haywire due to the current situation, we are facing. His producers have invested huge amounts and they are worried about theatres being closed for months together. Even though people might try to flock into the theaters whenever they re-open with 50% to 60% capacity seating plans, owners of the theaters might not strictly follow such rules as they might think about recovering losses of prolonged shutdown than further increase in Covid-19 cases. Hence, Governments won’t be convinced to go ahead to open theatres until they are ready with a plan of action.
At this hour of uncertainty, producers are looking at available avenue, OTT platforms to buy their films for huge amounts. Even if they believe that may not recover the entire amount, they are looking to get 70% or 80% deals for World Global Premiere on OTT and then ask for remaining from Satellite market, so that it will give them some recovery than waiting for months to release their films and spend crores to create buzz. Akshay had a big year in 2019 with all of his films doing well but his producers of Laxmmi Bomb film, remake of Kanchana by Raghava Lawrence – also directed in Hindi by him, to debut on OTT platforms directly, during Eid and then have a Satellite premiere too.
Already, the star’s Sooryavanshi got delayed from March and producers of Laxmmi Bomb feel they can’t wait for so long like other producers. Reports suggest that the makers have finalised a deal and official announcement will happen soon. Telugu producers who are worried about their investments in 50 films that are ready for release are looking at this deal closely, in a hope to arrive at a similar one for their films too.
