Prathinidhi was a good film in Nara Rohit’s career. After years of gap, he is back with Prathinidhi 2. The film is directed by famous journalist Murthy and was released today after being postponed once due to censor issues. Read our detailed review here.
Prathinidhi 2 Story: Chetan(Nara Rohit) works as the head of a TV channel. It is run by a sincere lady played by Udaya Bhanu. Their only aim is to expose corrupt politicians, and they do a superb job at it. However, their channel and Chetan’s profile take a beating when the CM of the state(Sachin Khedekar) gets assassinated in a bomb blast. Things become chaotic in the state and a CBI inquiry gets started. Who killed the CM? and what role did Chetan play in all this as a sincere journalist is the story.
Performances: Nara Rohit is decent in his role, but he is not at his best, as he was years ago. The good thing is that his dialogue delivery is still powerful, and he uses it as his strength in the film. Sachin Khedekar is neat in his role and brings depth to the film. Udaya Bhanu gets a good role, and she shines in it. Saptagiri evokes a few laughs. Ajay Ghosh is not good in his role. Ajay was apt in his character.
Technical Aspects: Mahati Sagar composed the music for this film, and his songs are disappointing, to say the least. His BGM was also very loud. The VFX part is worse, and the production values look cheap. The editing is okay but the screenplay was worse. Also, the dialogues in the film are superb, especially those that question the system very well. The production design is bad, and the narration is jaded.
Analysis: Prathinidhi 2 is the second part of the Prathinidhi franchise and there were so many expectations put on this film. But sadly, Prathinidhi 2 does not live up to all the hype created. TV 5 Murthy has turned director with this film and he has not used the opportunity given to him one bit. The first half of the film is filled with scenes related to exposing the corrupt people in the state, and the second half showcases the CBI investigation into the murder of the CM.
The backstory and emotional output in the film are not at all strong. That is the reason, the proceedings in the film do not hit you more. There are so many logical errors in the film that go for a toss. Murthy has taken things for granted and showcased the film on a lighter note. There are a few scenes that click. For example, the live interview scenes of Nara Rohit and a scene where the hero speaks about the importance of voting are very nice.
The film is considered to be a propaganda film but the good thing is that things are not that much in favor of a specific party. But the sad part is that Prathindhi 2 does not have the thrills or drama that the first part had. Sadly, it ends in no man’s land and is a boring political drama. There is also a lead for the third part and that also does not excites you much.
Verdict: Overall, Prathinidhi 2 is a boring political drama that lacks a proper screenplay. A few scenes are good, but the rest of the narration is bland and boring. In a way the film is a missed opportunity.
Bottom Line – Political drama
