Suniel Shetty has approached the Bombay High Court seeking legal protection for his personality rights. Reports indicate that his plea includes a viral deepfake image featuring him and his grandchild.
The actor stated that many social media pages and sites misuse his image to promote their businesses and prompting him to take legal action.
This move reflects a growing trend of celebrities protecting their personal and commercial identity.
Earlier this month the Bombay HC issued protection for Asha Bhosle, banning unauthorised use of her name, images, voice, including AI content.
Personality rights give individuals control over the public and commercial use of their identity. These rights cover unique traits such as image, voice, signature, catchphrases and include the Right of Publicity, guarding against commercial misuse and the Right to Privacy, protecting against deepfakes, doctored content, or fake endorsements.
