Papam Prathap Movie Review & Rating!

Young hero Thiruveer is making movies with different concepts. After the success of The Great Pre-Wedding Show, Thiruveer has once again made a comedy story with Papam Prathap. Directed by Durga Naresh, the film stars Payal Radhakrishna as the female lead. How is the film that was released in theatres on Friday? Did Thiruveer once again impress the Telugu audience with his comedy story or not? What do you think?

Story: Pratap (Thiruveer) has loved Bujjamma (Payal Radhakrishna) since childhood. Even though his father, Veeraiah (Ajay Ghosh), does not like it, he marries Bujjamma with the support of his mother (Rashi). After three nights, Bujjamma puts a panchayat against Pratap in front of the elders. She knows there is a problem and tells her husband to come to her only after it is fixed. Until then, she stays at her mother’s house. There are rumors in the village about Pratap’s problem. What is it? Did his love for Bujjamma make him a normal man again? Did they get back together? That is the story of the film.

Performances: Thiruveer’s performance in the role of a lover who suffers from a sleeping disorder is good. His comedy timing is good. Payal Radhakrishna is seen in an emotional role. Ajay Ghosh appears in a full-length role as the hero’s father and impresses with his dialogue delivery and punches. Rashi has done justice to the mother’s character. Goparaju Ramana, Raghu Babu, and Prasad Behera’s comedy works to a great extent. Devi Prasad and Avasarala Srinivas also perform well.

Technical Aspects: Durga Naresh is not only the director but also the writer. The film feels like a learning experience. The point he chose for the film is new. K.M. Radhakrishnan’s music is good. Along with the melody, the picturization is also beautiful. Cinematographer Vishweshwar has shown the beauty of the village well. ETV Win’s production values are in line with the film. The 1990s backdrop gives life to the story. The riots, village panchayats, and conflicts are shown naturally, taking the audience into that era.

Analysis: Director Durga Naresh has written the story of Papam Prathap by adding the problem of a sleeping disorder to a love story. There is no cure for some problems, and the message is that love works like real medicine. The film begins with Pratap and Bujjamma’s wedding. After that, their love story is presented in a cute way. When Bujjamma leaves Pratap, the real story begins.

The villagers create various rumors about Pratap’s problem. The first half is hilarious with the comedy that unfolds. The fun episodes between Ajay Ghosh and Goparaju Ramana are entertaining. Shakeela’s film scene and Raghu’s mediation episode are quite explosive. Pratap’s plans fail, and the director generates good entertainment from the scenes involving his father.

Interest is created in the second half with a twist where Pratap learns about his disorder during the interval. His problem and what he does next are shown emotionally when he realizes it is an obstacle to love. The director balances comedy and emotions well without going into over-melodrama. The Racha Banda scene, where he proves to the villagers that his problem has been reduced, is a highlight. The climax feels convincing.

It would have been better if the flashback explaining the hero’s problem was shown clearly. There is a lack of depth in the hero’s efforts to solve the issue. Also, why the hero loves the heroine so much is not properly established. If these small flaws had been addressed, the result of the film could have been better.

Verdict: Overall, Papam Prathap is a film that is made with heart. The performances, situations and narrative is decent though it deviates at times. Those who like rustic drama with earth flavor can give this film a shot.
