OTT Premiere: ‘Agent’ Faces Another Twist

Sony LIV’s much-anticipated release of Akhil Akkineni’s “Agent” on the 29th of this month has encountered another setback, with a court order blocking its streaming on the OTT platform. This film has faced a tumultuous journey since its inception, plagued by production challenges exacerbated by the pandemic and an accident involving director Surender Reddy.

Its theatrical release was repeatedly postponed, finally hitting screens in April this year. Adding to its woes, Vizag Distributor Battula Satyanarayana, who holds the Telugu state rights for “Agent,” has taken legal action against producer Anil Sunkara.

Satyanarayana alleges that the film was not made available in all designated areas as agreed upon, and his request for a refund remained unanswered. Consequently, the court has imposed a stay on the film’s OTT release.

“Agent” is a highly-anticipated spy action thriller directed by Surender Reddy, starring Mammotty and Sakshi Vaidhya. This film’s troubled journey to the screens continues to be marred by unfortunate events, leaving both fans and the industry eagerly awaiting its eventual release on Sony LIV.
