Not very often have Telugu heroes collaborated with Tamil directors in the past, and even scored good hits, the best examples being Geetanjali and Ye Maaya Chesave. However, this has not been the case in the last few years, with films that actors are making with Tamil directors flopping at the box office. The best example in recent times for this is Ram Pothineni’s The Warrior, directed by Linguswamy. An earlier example could be Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Spyder, with Murugadoss, and Pawan Kalyan’s Puli, with SJ Suryah, before that.
There were decent expectations on the film before release, but it turned out to be a huge disaster upon release. Another example would be Ram Charan’s film with director Shankar. While this film may not have released yet, there have been several issues that have been taking place constantly, with a lot of drama reportedly going on, on the sets of the film.
Despite all this, more and more Telugu actors seem to be opting for Tamil directors. It might be a huge and unnecessary risk for actors to take, especially when there’s solid proof od disappointment before ethm.
