For the past few years, and especially for the past several months, South cinema has been the flag bearer of Indian cinema, with back to back successful films from one industry or another, at a time when Bollywood has been struggling to deliver a proper hit.
With even the North audience being very much inclined towards watching South cinema, as the content in South films are appealing more to the Indian audience, than the content being produced by Bollywood, even Bollywood actors and filmmakers are looking towards South for success and for redemption. At a time like this, the fact that RRR has been snubbed by the Indian jury as the official entry for Oscars from India, truly shows how much South cinema continues to be ignored.
It is a shame, indeed, for South cinema to be ignored on such a scale, despite the fact that it’s been India’s saving grace. This snub has not been sitting well with the Indian audience, who are calling out the Indian jury for their prejudice.
