Ooru Peru Bhairavakona Story: Basava, portrayed by Sundeep Kishan, is a daring stuntman with a penchant for stealing valuable jewelry. Alongside his trusty sidekick, John (Viva Harsha), Basava embarks on a getaway from a rural village. Their journey takes an unexpected turn when they encounter Geetha (Kavya Thapar), who feigns an accident to gain their attention. Lost along the way, the trio stumbles upon Bhairavakona, an eerie village shrouded in mystery. To their astonishment, they discover that the stolen jewelry is intertwined with the supernatural inhabitants of Bhairavakona. They enter the village and get stuck there and their jewelry is also stolen by the people of Bhairavakona. How will they get it back is the story of the film.

Performances: Sundeep Kishan delivers a commendable performance, showcasing sincerity and skill throughout the film. His commanding screen presence and flawless dialogue delivery captivate the audience until the very end. Viva Harsha continues to impress with each new project, shining brightly in his role. Kavya Thapar exhibits growing confidence on screen with each successive film. She adeptly embraces her character. Vennela Kishore adds to the film’s humor with his impeccable comic timing. Varsha Bollama excels in a substantial role, delivering a commendable performance overall. On the other hand, Ravi Shankar, a talented actor, unfortunately, fails to make a significant impact due to his loud portrayal.

Technical Aspects: The cinematography impresses, notably capturing the essence of Bhairavakona with rich visuals, enhanced by passable VFX and intelligent editing. Sekhar Chandra‘s music stands out as a major highlight of the film, injecting vitality with its catchy tunes. His background score effectively enhances the eerie atmosphere, adding depth to the spooky elements. Furthermore, the film boasts impeccable production values, with particular acclaim owed to the stellar production design. Set work, visual effects, and sound design contribute significantly to the overall aesthetic, elevating the cinematic experience.

Analysis: When director VI Anand and Sundeep Kishan teamed up, there was decent hype for this film. It went to the next level when the trailer impressed one and all. But sadly, VI Anand’s efforts in Ooru Peru Bhairavakona fall short of expectations. While the story holds promise on paper, its execution leaves much to be desired.

Despite building anticipation with a promising interval climax, the film fails to deliver on its potential. Instead of diving into the anticipated chaos surrounding Bhairavakona, the narrative veers off course with a lackluster subplot involving Varsha Bollama.

The second half exacerbates the film’s shortcomings, feeling rushed, exaggerated, and disconnected from the central conflict, ultimately leaving viewers disappointed. The emotions do not connect with you one bit and there is no solid thrill that keeps you on the edge of the seats.

In a way, Anand attempts to interweave multiple narrative threads with the main plot, but the result is a disjointed and confusing storyline. His direction lacks clarity, leaving audiences grappling with numerous unanswered questions of why they started watching the film in the first place.

Verdict: Overall, Ooru Peru Bhairavakona is a disappointing attempt from VI Anand and Sundeep Kishan. While the first half makes sense, things go out of hand in the second half. A good subject is spoilt by some illogical and silly narration making this film a below-par watch this weekend.

Bottom Line – An over-ambitious fantasy thriller
