OMG 2 Release on Halt as Film to be Censored Again

After Adipurush, CBFC is reportedly being extra careful and has forwarded Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 to the Revision Committee.

OMG 2, starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi, is scheduled to open in theatres next month, but according to multiple media reports, there may have been a hiccup with the CBFC (Central Board of Certification) or censor board. The first movie, which was released in 2012, was a critical and commercial triumph. Its sequel is currently having issues, supposedly as a result of the error made by Om Raut’s Adipurush, whose subpar dialogues caused a hornet’s nest to be stirred.

The epic Ramayana is the inspiration for the film Adipurush, starring Prabhas as Raghav and Kriti Sanon as Janaki. Despite having a huge budget, the film’s annoying dialogue and alterations to the story failed to impress the audience. Regarding this Akshay-led movie, Paresh Rawal co-starred with Khiladi in the opening act and was portrayed as Lord Krishna.

Akshay Kumar will play Lord Shiva in the OMG 2 sequel, but the CBFC apparently is more cautious today and has delayed the movie’s release as a result of what happened with Om Raut’s Adipurush. Reports say that the Board submitted the movie to the revising committee as a “preemptive measure” in order to avoid the wrath that followed the release of the Prabhas-starring movie last month.

Although the reports have not yet received a response from Akshay Kumar or Amit Rai, the director of OMG 2, a source familiar with the situation informed ETimes that “there is no issue” and that “the censor board process is on.” The source said that after viewing the film’s teaser, which was released earlier this week, the CBFC advised that it be sent to the revision committee. The film’s producer has not yet received a show cause letter from the Board.

On August 11, OMG 2 starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam will hit theatres alongside Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2.
