Akkineni Nagarjuna is known for choosing different genres and he already announced that he is no longer in the number game and will only do movies that have strong characters and good storyline making worth of his effort. He stood on his word for his last 4 releases since Manam. The movie became his first blockbuster since King and it earned him immense respect as well among the new generation too. He then followed ot up with a surprise Blockbuster, Soggade Chinni Nayana.
The movie released for Sankranthi, riding on his star image bullet, the movie smashed all his previous highest records and became his biggest hit ever. Immediately, within two months, he released Oopiri in Tamil and Telugu, the movie received lots of praise for its deft story handling and brilliant performances by Karthi and himself. He was on a wheel chair as a quadriplegic patient and his performance and popularity made the film a big hit in Telugu and from Tamil too it earned good revenues ending up to have grossed equal to his Soggade Chinni Nayana, combined. After, three back to back successful films, he decided to accept Om Namo Venkatesaya, a devotional film in K Raghavendra Rao direction with MM Keeravani music and JK Bharavi writing about Hathiram Baba.
Om Namo Venkatesaya, released this weekend on 10th February, Friday. The film was not expected to have thunderous opening like a mass flick but it still was expected to take a more decent opening than the numbers reflect. The business over the three days was not quite encouraging even though the talk is good from all quarters who have seen the film. In a way, Nenu Local released previous week has been a speed breaker too as the movie is surprisingly doing great even in its second weekend and showed a strong hold over the weekdays too. Distributors who put in big money are now looking for some turnaround like Annamayya and hoping for a long run.
