Noted Film Producer & Writer Pritish Nandy Dies; Bollywood Pays Tribute

Renowned filmmaker, poet, and journalist Pritish Nandy died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday in his Mumbai house. He was 73. The multi-faceted media personality is celebrated for his unwavering contributions to Indian cinema and the field of journalism. Many Bollywood celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the stalwart.

Bollywood Pays Tribute To Pritish Nandy

Pritish Nandy’s close friend, veteran actor Anupam Kher, was among the first to pay homage to Nandy, breaking the heartbreaking news to his followers. Kareena Kapoor, who worked in the 2004 film Chameli, backed by Pritish, shared a couple of pictures from the film’s sets on IG Stories and added a heart and folded hand emoji.

Sanjay Dutt, who starred in Kaante and Shabd, wrote, “A true creative genius and a kind soul, you will be missed sir. #PritishNandy.” Anil Kapoor shared a photo of the late filmmaker on X and wrote, “Shocked and heartbroken by the loss of my dear friend Pritish Nandy. A fearless editor, a brave soul, and a man of his word, he embodied integrity like no other.”

Who Was Pritish Nandy?

Pritish Nandy was born in 1951 in Bihar’s Bhagalpur. He had a stellar career as a painter, journalist, parliamentarian, media and television personality, animal activist, and maker of films, TV, and streaming content. He also wrote 40 poetry books in English and translated poems from Bengali, Urdu, and Punjabi into English.
In 1993, he founded Pritish Nandy Communications, serving as its non-executive chairman and creative mentor until his death. Nandy was a celebrated journalist, and television host. As a film producer, he backed several offbeat movies, including Sur, Kaante, Jhankaar Beats, Chameli, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, and Pyaar Ke Side Effects. He also produced the web series Four More Shots Please! and Modern Love Mumbai.

As a journalist, Nandy worked with various publications and served as a member of parliament for six years after getting elected to Rajya Sabha on a Shiv Sena ticket in 1998.
