A court in Surat, Gujarat has allowed a criminal case against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap over his social media posts related to the film Phule.
The court said his comments were objectionable and allegedly insulted the Brahmin community.
Based on a complaint filed by lawyer and VHP leader Kamlesh Raval, the court also issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
Raval stated that Anurag’s post on April 16th, 2025 went viral and hurt community sentiments. The court felt the posts could create tension between different groups and approved charges under relevant sections of law.
The complaint also mentioned some of his older posts, calling them offensive. Since Anurag did not respond to several summons the court issued a non-bailable warrant.
