Kalki Koechlin, who got noticed in Dev D recently shared that her journey after her debut wasn’t easy. Although Dev D became a cult classic over time it did not give her an instant break in Bollywood.
In an interview Kalki said she was out of work for nearly two years after the film’s release. She was even advised to change her looks, dye her hair black, do item numbers and consider cosmetic treatments to stay relevant.
She shared, “The recognition came slowly. Dev D wasn’t an overnight success, it grew gradually and the music by Amit Trivedi really helped”.
During the 2 year gap she focused on theatre and co-wrote a play called The Skeleton Woman with Prashanth Prakash touring with it across the country.
She said she became popular only after films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. She also said that early struggles helped her stay grounded and prepared for everything.
