Sumanth has often bounced back with impressive performances whenever his career was written off. After earning praise with Malli Raava, Sita Ramam, Sir, and Anaganaga, he now returns with Newton’s 3rd Law, an ETV Win-backed thriller. Here’s our review.
Newton’s 3rd Law Story: The story begins in Zuluk, Sikkim, in 2026, where David alias Kishore (Avasarala Srinivas) is reading Newton’s 3rd Law Part 1. The narrative then moves to 1999. After learning about her husband’s death, Jyothi dies in a road accident, leaving her daughter Shravya orphaned.
At the same time, Vinay mysteriously falls from an apartment terrace and dies. Police officer Vasudev (Sumanth) takes up the investigation and finds a bullet in Vinay’s head during the post-mortem, confirming it is murder. The rest of the film follows his search for the killer and the hidden links behind the mysterious deaths.
Performances: Sumanth delivers a natural performance as police officer Vasudev, a role that perfectly suits his calm acting style. Trinadh Varma is impressive as Vinay, while Gautam Pandit also performs well and leaves a strong impression. Shelly N Kumar is convincing as the mother and does justice to her role.
Jagapathi Babu and Avasarala Srinivas have limited screen time and appear more like extended cameos. Ravi Varma and Neha Pathan are well-cast and provide good support with their performances.
Technical Aspects: The film starts on an engaging note by linking Newton’s Third Law with the idea of karma. The opening murders create curiosity, but the investigation scenes become repetitive and slow the pace. The second half is more engaging with a few well executed sequences and good climax twists.
However, the ending feels incomplete as the hero does not confront the villain’s gang. Sinjith’s music is decent, though the songs affect the flow. The cinematography and production values are good, while the editing could have been crisper.
Analysis: Newton’s 3rd Law has an interesting concept and a few engaging moments, but the slow first half, repetitive investigation, unnecessary songs, and an incomplete climax reduce its overall impact. It ends up as a decent one-time watch for thriller lovers.
Verdict: Newton’s 3rd Law has a strong core idea and sincere performances, but an uneven screenplay and a weak finish stop it from becoming a memorable thriller.
Bottom Line: Concept wins over execution.
