nawazuddin siddiqui is in hot water over a soft drink commercial that he appeared in in bengali.
One of the top actors in indian film is nawazuddin siddiqui. in films like gangs of wasseypur, the lunchbox, raman raghav 2.0, and manto, he delivered a number of standout performances. his most recent advertisement, though, has caused problems.
The actor was featured in a soft drink advertisement that was initially filmed in Hindi. A Kolkata-based lawyer has complained to a line in the Bengali version of the advertisement but no complaints have been made about the Hindi version. The advertisement is a part of the brand’s latest marketing campaign. It advertises the new drink bottle function that enables users to listen to jokes by scanning a QR code.
The audience did not respond well to the commercial’s Bengali version. Dibyayan Banerji, a lawyer from Kolkata, claimed in court that Coca-Cola’s primary advertisement for the product Sprite was in Hindi. And that’s not a problem for us. Only the Bengali dubbing of the advertisement, which is airing on numerous TV networks and internet, is problematic. One of the jokes had actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui chuckling as it reads, ‘shoja anguley ghee na uthley, Bangali khali petey ghumiye porey’. In English, it means that if Bengalis don’t get anything easily, they sleep hungry. And this, we think, hurts the sentiments of the Bengali community. We want this type of shallow act and gimmicks not to be promoted in the future.”
The soft drink manufacturer removed the Bengali version of the Nawazuddin-starring advertisement in response to the complaint, and it said in a statement “regrets the recent ad campaign for the cold drink and that the company respects the Bengali language”.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is currently waiting for the premiere of Afwaah, in which he co-stars with Bhumi Pednekar. The movie will premiere in theatres on May 5. Additionally, it has significant roles for the actors Sumit Kaul, Sharib Hashmi, Sumeet Vyas, TJ Bhanu, and Rockey Raina. Additionally, he will appear in Kangana Ranaut’s film Tiku Weds Sheru.
