For the past few months, Naseeruddin Shah has been actively promoting his online series Taj: Divided by Blood. The actor recently spoke with a number of media outlets and discussed a number of topics that are common in the Hindi film industry. He has exposed everything, from celebrities’ lack of response to wrestlers’ protests at Jantar Mantar to Muslim hatred in the nation.
The Taj: Divided by Blood actor was discussing his body of work and his approach to reading a character in a recent conversation. He made a comical faux pas when alluding to his Anees Bazmee film Welcome Back during one of these interactions.
When Naseeruddin Shah shared his notion of getting lost in characters, they were having a talk. Even though he finds it really tough to do, he was asked what his emotions are. He went off the rails while describing the characters.
The actor told that he finds the idea of immersing into one’s character ridiculous and said, “If I were to become the character I played in ‘Goodbye Again’… whatever it’s called, ‘Welcome Back,’ then that would mean I’d have to go blind.” The audience laughed heartily as soon as he frivolously referred to his movie as Goodbye Again and paused to remember the title.
A Twitter user shared the clip on the social media platform saying, “Welcome Back was so bad, Naseeruddin Shah forgot the name of the movie and called it ‘Goodbye Again.” Another user commented, “He has a long history of starring in terrible movies and acted worse than the written role.” One more user wrote, “he acted in welcome back, and then his wife acted in anees bazmee’s next film. I don’t know why either chose to do it.”
However, another user argued that the Masoom actor might have done such roles for purely financial reasons as one reply said, “Bhai ghar bhi chalana hota hai!”
For those who are unaware, Naseeruddin Shah portrayed Wanted Bhai in Anees Bazmee’s Welcome Back (2015). The movie made almost 97 crores at the box office despite receiving negative reviews. Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Shiney Ahuja, Dimple Kapadia, and Paresh Rawal all had significant roles in the movie.
