Nargis Fakhri and her family are currently facing serious attention after her sister, Aliya Fakhri, was arrested on charges of murder. Reports say Aliya set her ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacob’s, house on fire in a fit of anger, leading to Edward’s death along with his friend, Anastasia Star Ettienne.
Police have confirmed that Aliya is responsible for the incident and denied her bail. District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement, “This defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno. The victims tragically died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries”.
Reports also included reactions from both families and a witness statement. Edward’s mother said that Edward and Aliya had broken up a year ago, but Aliya still showed interest in him. She also mentioned that Edward and Anastasia were just friends.
A witness, who is a friend of Edward and Anastasia, said that even though Anastasia was rescued, she went back into the house to try to save Edward. The witness described the scene, saying, “We had to jump over it to escape. Star jumped over with me, but then she went back in to save”.
This witness also described Aliya and Edward’s relationship as “abusive,” adding that Aliya had previously said she would burn down his house and kill him, which others had taken as a joke.
Edward and Anastasia died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Nargis Fakhri, who is currently working on “Housefull 5” with Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan, has not commented on the situation.
Her mother, however, defended Aliya, saying, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody”.
