CPI leader Narayana created a big discussion with his comments on the arrest of Immadi Ravi who is accused of operating the piracy site iBomma.
Narayana told the media that the problem is not just about arresting one person but fixing the system that pushes people towards such activities.
He said Ravi is a smart youngster who chose piracy because the system failed him. Even if the government punishes him, others will still enter piracy unless the real issues are addressed.
His remarks drew more attention when he admitted that he too had watched movies on iBomma. Narayana said high movie ticket prices force common people to look for cheaper options.
He questioned how the public can afford tickets costing six or seven hundred rupees. He also criticised what he called the “cinema mafia”, saying producers spend crores but expect the public to pay huge ticket prices. Narayana stressed that unless these issues are solved piracy will continue.
