Marking the centenary birth anniversary of Smt. Nandamuri Basava Tarakam, wife of the legendary actor and former Chief Minister Late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), the Nandamuri Basava Tarakam NTR Charitable Trust was formally inaugurated today by members of the Nandamuri family.
The inaugural event was held near Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad, where the family paid floral tributes to Smt. Basava Tarakam and organized an Annadanam (free community meal) as the Trust’s first service initiative.
The Trust will be led by Nandamuri Mohana Krishna as Chairman, Nandamuri Mohana Roopa as Managing Trustee, and Nandamuri Seemanthini and Tummala Prasanna Kumar as Trustees.
Speaking on the occasion, Nandamuri Mohana Krishna said, “On the centenary birth anniversary of our mother, we are honored to launch this Trust in her name. While our father, NTR, dedicated his life to cinema and public service, our mother stood firmly beside him, nurturing our family with immense love, sacrifice, and responsibility. We can never repay her selfless contributions.”
He added that the Trust began its journey with fruit distribution to elderly women at Grandma Home and an Annadanam programme, and will gradually expand its activities to support the underprivileged through healthcare, education, and other welfare initiatives. “We aspire to identify those in genuine need and extend meaningful support. We seek the blessings of our revered parents and the encouragement of the people in this noble journey,” he said.
Managing Trustee Nandamuri Mohana Roopa said, “Today, as we fondly remember our grandparents, Late NTR and Smt. Basava Tarakam, we are proud to launch this Trust in her memory. Despite our grandfather’s demanding responsibilities in cinema and public life, our grandmother dedicated herself to raising the family and providing unwavering support at every step of his journey. This Trust is our tribute to her remarkable strength and sacrifice.”
She further announced that the Trust will undertake several service initiatives in the future, with a special focus on educational scholarships, healthcare assistance, and welfare programmes for the underprivileged. She also appealed to the public for their support in making these initiatives impactful.
Trustee Nandamuri Seemanthini expressed her happiness at launching the Trust on Smt. Basava Tarakam’s centenary birth anniversary. “It is heartening to begin this noble initiative with an Annadanam programme. The blessings of the revered couple will always remain with us,” she said.
Trustee Tummala Prasanna Kumar highlighted Smt. Basava Tarakam’s invaluable role in the Nandamuri family. He said she single-handedly shouldered family responsibilities while NTR remained committed to his professional and public duties, instilling discipline and values in their children. He also recalled NTR’s lifelong commitment to serving the underprivileged and empowering countless people through public service.
He concluded by stating that the Nandamuri Basava Tarakam NTR Charitable Trust will continue to uphold those ideals by undertaking several humanitarian initiatives in the years ahead, dedicated to serving society through compassion, education, healthcare, and community welfare.
