Akkineni Nagarjuna is one actor who never choose a similar subject after a film. He always tried to experiment and expand his acting resume. He decided to tred in less trodden path very early in his career by accepting movies like Sankeerthana and bringing Mani Ratnam to Telugu with Geetanjali. He even convinced directors like K Raghavendra Rao to look for new subjects with him. Raghavendra Rao even acknowledged the fact by saying, with Nagarjuna’s push only he made Aakhari Poratam with him and then decided to make Annamayya with the actor. Annamayya created a sensation in 90’s by re-introducing the dying devotional genre to Telugu audience and won them over. The film won National Recognition too.
The duo or to rightly say trio, as both Director and Actor are handicaps without the music of MM Keeravani. The successful trio continued their success story with Sri Ramadasu. Even though Shirdi Sai did not do the business as expected, the film has been popular among devotees. After nearly, 20 years, the trio is attempting a story surrounding, Lord Venkateswara and his devotee, Hathiram Baba. Hathiram Baba was famous for playing Snakes and Ladders with Lord himself and starting pooja traditions in Tirumala. He was locked up in Jail by then King due to misunderstanding but Lord clears everything. This story is being told in a classic way like Annamayya and the insiders of the industry, suggest the movie being no way shorter in comparison to the classic. The emotional climax is said to be the best after the one in Annamayya.
The strong buzz, tempted a non player like Eenadu Television to bid highest for the film. ETV bought the early satellite rights of Annamayya for 10 years and even after repeated telecast, the film now with Gemini, is still able to bring in good Trps. So Eenadu has bought the satellite rights of Om Namo Venkatesaya for 12 crores. This is a record price for any Nagarjuna movie and devotional movies as well. The movie has completed shooting and the post production work is going on at full speed trying to release the movie by February next year. As per the sources the movie might at best release in March only.
