Nag Ashwin, director of films like Mahanati, Yevade Subrahmanyam suggested that may be selling alcohol beverages like beer at theatres could help the theatres to attract people back to them, in future as part of discussions on improving the viewers experience at theatres. His suggestions started getting more reactions from Telugu Twitterati. Many suggested that the director is not considering the uneasiness that Telugu families would feel in such situations.
Some said that the alcohol in Telugu states is considered a bad habit and selling such beverages at theatres means enabling alcoholism. Some said that the rural area audiences will create ruckus at theatres and even multiplex audiences might need security from drunk viewers in the theatres. Even with limits on sales, with allowing only mild alcoholic beverages – the problem will be huge with controlling crowds at canteens and there could be serious violations of privacy too! Well, his one suggestion gained more traction and opened more discussions on how to improve theatrical experience in Indian theatres, more than ever.
Once In a talk with suresh babu garu and rana, it came up what if theaters get license to serve beer/breezer/wine, like in other countries..could it increase footfalls…could it save the theater business (which does need saving)…wat do you think? Good idea, bad idea?
