Ravi Teja and Harish Shankar have teamed up after a long gap for a film titled Mr. Bachchan. The film is the official remake of the Hindi hit Raid. Let’s review if the film lives up to all the hype or not.
Mr. Bachchan Story: Mr. Bachchan played by Ravi Teja is a sincere Income tax officer who gets suspended for doing his duty. He gets back to his village and falls in love with a young Marvadi girl played by Bhagyashree Borse. When everything seems to be going fine, Mr Bachchan’s suspension gets revoked and he is asked to raid a corrupt politician played by Jagapathi Babu. How a small IT officer raids the house of a powerful man is the basic story of the film.
Performances: As usual, Ravi Teja is in his elements and gives a powerful performance. Harish Shankar has showcased him in a very mass avatar after a long gap. But the star of the film is Bhagyashree Borse, she is glamorous, dances superbly, and also emotes well. She is a star in the making.
Jagapathi Babu is doing the same thing again and again and is loud as hell. Comedian Satya is superb in the first half and evokes superb comedy. The rest of the cast is quite ordinary. Siddhu Jonnalagadda‘s cameo is solid in the second half.
Technical Aspects: Mr Bachchan’s music is one of the biggest assets as every so g is a bit and has been showcased superbly. The camerawork is decent but the production design is not that great. The dialogue by Harish Shankar is top notch and the choreography needs a special mention.
Analysis: Mr Bachchan is the official remake of the Hindi hit Raid. Harish Shankar has made a lot of changes and adds more entertainment in the first half. While this aspect is quite entertaining, the rest of the second half is dull and a bit boring.
The narration of Harish Shankar is jaded as he loses the plot and adds way too many commercial moments which take the film down. The Income Tax Raid is made to look way too silly and too many cinematic liberties have been taken and this spoils the flow.
The entire episode of Annapurna and Chammak Chandra is over the top. But there are a few moments that stand out. A few confrontation scenes between the hero and the villain have been showcased superbly.
The climax is predictable and has nothing new to showcase. But the regular arrival of songs make things interesting. The first half is very good and the second is just average making the film just a timepass watch.
Verdict: Overall, Mr Bachchan has a very entertaining first half and becomes quite routine in the second making the film a paasable watch only for its songs and comedy.
Bottom Line – Only for the masses
