Mini Mathur Shares Why She Quit Indian Idol & Reveals The Reality of the Show

Mini Mathur, who hosted Indian Idol for six seasons, explained why she left the program, citing “constructed reality.”

Bollywood stars have frequently criticized reality television for not being realistic enough. Former Indian Idol judge Sonu Nigam alleged that the show employed auto-tune to enhance the performances of its participants. Neha Kakkar, the current judge, has frequently come under fire for crying excessively on the program. Mini Mathur, the show’s previous host, has revealed details regarding Indian Idol and the reasons behind her departure.

The actress-first model’s job in the entertainment industry was as a television host. She became well-known by emceeing numerous MTV programs and events. In the 2000s, Mini rose to become one of the most well-liked hosts. Mini made appearances on a number of popular reality television programs, including Jhalak Dikhlaja and Kaun Banega Crorepati.

For six seasons, Mini Mathur served as Indian Idol’s host. Along with Aman Verma, she served as the program’s inaugural host. The candidates and judges, including Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, and others, got along well with the actress. The host’s absence from Indian Idol season 7 was quite disappointing for the audience. Mini explained her decision to leave the show to Cyrus Broacha during their conversation on his podcast, On Cyrus Says.

She said, “I was truly invested in every single person. Even when the cameras stopped rolling, I didn’t drop my smile. They would come to my house for dinner, I would sit with them for hours.” Sadly, Mini Mathur did not share the same bond with the makers of the show. As per DNA, while talking about them, she said, “I called it quits only when I realized that now, there is no longer a real reality. I did six seasons. After that, it was just a question of making money, but by then, the husband had started making money… But I really didn’t appreciate that reality had become constructed.”

When requested to “create a moment” between Dharmendra and Hema Malini, she recalled an incident. Mini said, “Moment karte hain ke hota hai? Can you leave it to my experience to create something which will move them, maybe?’ This is not something I’m going to do, and of course, it wasn’t just Idol, I did a lot of stuff after that.
