Telugu cinema has been blessed with great charismatic stars right from Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao, Krishna, Sobhan Babu, Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, Prabhas, Jr. NTR and Nani. They have proved themselves at the box office at one time or the other. But in an up and down market ANR, NTR, Krishna and Chiranjeevi are the long standing matinee idols who were able to rock their comebacks with record collections. ANR after image building 50’s, very successful 60’s, started the decade of 70’s with big hits but with health problems and Studio work, his films took a plunge at the box office has they were not as successful as NTR or Krishna movies. But he came back stronger than ever with Premabhishekam and the movie created some unbreakable records in 1981.
He was 58 by the time and still rocked youngsters with his youthful looks and dances. NTR also saw a rough patch in late 60’s after Lava Kusa and in the mid 70’s with resurgence of young talent, he gave hits like Adavi Ramudu, Bobbili Puli and Sardar Paparayudu. After joining the politics, he reduced the number of films he made but when he was in opposition, he gave a popular film and in fact can be said a come back movie, Major Chandrakanth with Mohan Babu. He was in his 70’s when he acted in the movie and he participated in many stunts as well. Superstar Krishna had gone through many ups and downs through out his career but never he had to be too desperate for success until before the release of No.1. The SV Krishna Reddy directorial was a comeback to prominence for Krishna after a great lean patch that lasted for years. He delivered a big box office hit announcing his comeback at the age of 50. Now, following their suit Megastar Chiranjeevi also rocked his comeback to screen at the age of 61.
His Sankranti release, Khaidi No 150 had a shelf life more than the other two releases and the movie is still bringing in houseful crowds to the theatres. People have welcomed him back to films in a great grand way. The actor slimmed down for the movie and showcased that he still has the passion for movies and danced well in the movie. The movie made on a budget of 61 crores was sold to distributors for a whopping price of 90 crores and it needed to perform exceptionally well to break Srimanthudu’s record of being second highest grosser of Telugu Cinema after Bahubali. The movie did just that in its second weekend and now, the share collections stand at 92.5 crores (approximately) and the movie is termed as the new Non- Bahubali Industry Hit by the trade pandits. Well, the speed of the movie is still intact and people are expecting it to cross 100 barrier and close near to Bahubali numbers. In some towns and cities, Bahubali closing shares were already crossed by Khaidi and this is truly a great comeback by Chiranjeevi.
