Natural Star Nani’s sister, Deepthi Ganta, has made her directorial debut with Meet Cute, a web series, which has been released on Sony Liv today. There are decent expectations on this anthology series. Let’s see how the web series has turned out to be.

Story: There are five episodes in total, in Meet Cute, which each episode telling a new story, with a new set of actors. The setups in each story are such that there’s a meet-cute between two characters, which is how the title has come about. The common genre is love, but depending on the story, this love can be between characters sharing any sort of relationship – from husband and wife to two strangers even.

Performances: Meet Cute boasts of a huge ensemble cast, which includes the likes of Satyaraj, Rohini, Aakanksha Sing, Ruhani Sharma, Varsha Bollamma, Adah Sharma, and several others. Naturally, one would expect them to deliver decent performances.

While everyone has done a good job with whatever they’ve been given, it is Satyaraj and Rohini’s performances that really stand out in the web series. They come in different episodes, and both manage to create a huge impact on the audience within the limited time they have. Their performances add a great emotional depth to the storylines they are present in.

Technicalities: The cinematography is the main asset of the film, which makes even the most simple frame look so outstanding and pretty. The background score is apt for the situations, and while the songs fit the narrative, they don’t particularly stand out.

The production design of the web series is good enough as well, and the editing is quite crisp, with not much lag in the series.

Analysis: Deepthi has written the script for all the episodes, apart from directing them. Her intent is clearly understood as one watches one episode after the other. However, it is to be noted that she has failed to put forth her vision properly in front of the audience. The main issue with the web series is that it lacks any proper emotional depth to it. This will be a major disconnect for the audience.

Another drawback is that it is an anthology series. With every new episode, we see new actors and characters on screen. This dissociates the audience from the previous episode and throws them into a whole new scenario within a short time, with which they may fail to connect. The conclusions to every story are also inconclusive, which is another negative factor for the series on the whole.

Verdict: Skippable web series
