Matters related to God and faith often turn controversial when traditions are crossed. Earlier, a TV anchor faced backlash over comments on Tirumala prasadam and now young actress Teena Sravya has landed in a similar issue.
At the Medaram Jatara, it is a long-standing tradition to offer jaggery based on the weight of children as part of a vow. However Teena offered jaggery based on the weight of her pet dog, which upset many devotees.
The act drew strong criticism, with people saying it hurt religious sentiments. Teena quickly apologised to stop the issue from growing.
She explained that her 12 year old dog had undergone tumour surgery and she prayed to Sammakka for its recovery. After the dog recovered, she fulfilled her vow.
Tina admitted her mistake, said her intention was devotion, not disrespect, apologised to devotees and requested that the controversy be ended.
