Manoj Bajpayee’s Film Lands In Legal Trouble

Manoj Bajpayee’s film Ghuskhor Pandit has sparked controversy even before its release due to its title which loosely means “corrupt priest”.

Some groups called it casteist and said it insults a particular community. Protests were held in Jaipur and Bhopal and a Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Delhi HC.

The Supreme Court has now directed the filmmakers to change the title stating that no section of society should be insulted in the name of creative freedom.

The court also warned that freedom of expression should not disturb public order. Following the controversy Netflix removed the teaser and promotional material.

Directed by Ritesh Shah the film is about a corrupt police officer caught in a larger conspiracy. The next hearing is on February 19th.
