Mythri Movie Makers, a top Tollywood production house, is well-known for its prodigious film output and recent entrance into distribution. Despite previous triumphs such as ‘Salaar’ and ‘Hanu-Man’, their most recent release, ‘Operation Valentine’, did not do well.
However, they’ve made headlines by acquiring the Telugu rights of the Malayalam blockbuster ‘Manjummel Boys’ for a modest sum of 2 crores. This film, directed by Chidambaram and starring Soubin Shahir and others, revolves around a survival thriller based on true events from 2006. Despite being made on a budget of 14 crores, ‘Manjummel Boys’ surpassed the 100 crore mark within weeks of its Kerala release, making it a record-breaking hit.
This move reflects Mythri Movie Makers’ strategy to tap into successful regional content for the Telugu audience, following a similar path taken by Rajamouli’s son Karthikeya with the Telugu dubbing rights of ‘Premalu’. With their track record, Mythri Movie Makers aims to leverage the popularity of ‘Manjummel Boys’ to replicate its success in the Telugu market.
