Manisha Koirala Gets Candid About Her South Indian Film Career

Manisha Koirala recently spoke candidly about her South Indian film success and how Rajinikanth’s Baba impacted it.

Not only in Bollywood but also in the South Indian film business, Manisha Koirala is a well-known name. She appeared in several south pictures as well as some of the biggest Hindi movies, including Bombay (1995), Indian (1996), and Mudhalvan. (1999). The actress talked candidly about her work in the south during a recent interview.

She discussed how Rajinikanth’s underwhelming Tamil film Baba put an end to her career in the region during their chat.

Manisha Koirala opened up about her career in the South Indian film business and how Rajinikanth’s Baba’s failure affected it in an interview with a YouTube channel. What she is heard stating in a clip from her interview that was shared on social media on Wednesday is below.

Talking about the impact Rajinikanth-led Baba had on her career, Manisha Koirala says, “Baba was probably my last big Tamil film. It flopped so badly in those days. It was such a huge disaster. A lot of expectations were on the film and when it flopped, I thought my career in south films was gone completely and it did in a way.” She further added, “Before Baba, I was doing multiple, good South films. But after Baba flopped, I stopped getting offers.”

Baba, starring Rajinikanth, was helmed by Suresh Krissna. In it, the performer portrayed a naive young atheist named Baba who discovers that he is the previous life of a revered saint from the Himalayas. On Rajini’s birthday the previous year, the film was re-released in cinemas and did well at the box office.

During the same interview, Manisha Koirala added that she was glad that Baba turned out to be a hit when it was released after 20 years recently. “Strangely, the film turned out to be a hit when it was re-released which is unheard of. Rajini sir can never give a flop. He is such a kind man to work with,” she said

Manisha played a brief part in Kamal Haasan’s Mumbai Xpress after Baba’s release. (2005). Tamil and Hindi versions of this movie were concurrently produced and released. In Karthik Aaryan’s Shehzada, the Hindi remake of Allu Arjun’s Telugu blockbuster Ala Vaikuntapuramlo, Manisha Koirala made her final performance on film. (2022). Later this year, she will appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix online series Heeramandi.
