The Telugu Film Industry has been doing quite well since the reopening of theatres in the two Telugu states, with films fetching a good amount of revenue, despite the scare of coronavirus still being prominent, and OTT platforms dominating the scenario. However, since no big film has had its release so far, there is no clarity over what the fate of biggies would be.
With 2021 about to end, there are a couple of biggies ready for release, with Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda being the first to test the waters. Akhanda is all set to release on December 2nd, making it the first high stakes film to get a theatrical release, post the coronavirus pandemic. After Akhanda, Nani’s Shyam Singha Roy and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise, are ready to release this year, while Rajamouli’s RRR is set to release on January 7th next year.
Akhanda is going to be a litmus test for the upcoming big-ticket films, as the film’s performance at the theatres would give a picture for the future biggies and their performance in theatres. Given that every film that is scheduled to release after Akhanda is made on a massive budget, Tollywood is up for a major test ahead.
