Mahesh Kale On Why Collaborations Enrich Music

Indian classical singer Mahesh Kale who recently performed in Chennai spoke warmly about the city strong musical culture and his love for collaborations.

He said that wherever he sings he tries to include Carnatic pieces like Krishna Nee Begane which though rooted in South India, now have a universal appeal. Mahesh believes exploring a city adds depth to his art.

According to him Chennai is unique because music is a part of daily life in almost every household and audiences are well-informed and deeply connected to Carnatic music.

For Mahesh, music is not just passion but survival like food and breathing. He says that art thrives only when both the artiste and the audience come together as each inspires the other.

He has also collaborated with leading Carnatic musicians like Aruna Sairam, Abhishek Raghuram, Trichur Brothers, Selvaganesh and Sandeep Narayan.

He feels collaborations expand the scope of music and hopes the younger generation continues to love and preserve classical music.
