Mahanati, the biopic of legendary actress Savitri is been in the making for almost one year now. The film has been said to be a comprehensive and non-deviating detailed dramatic look on the life of Savitri. The actress rose to fame with Devadasu in 1953 and continued as the leading lady till the end of 1969. She did 200 films in her career as the leading lady in Telugu and Tamil. She married Gemini Ganeshan and gave birth to one kid, Vijayachamundeshwari.
She died at an early age due to cancer and without money. So, director Naga Ashwin decided to make a movie on her life and to bring out all the details withojt hiding any. Bringing her life on to silver screen is not easy and he had to do extensive research to determine what is the right direction to proceed with the script. But already, actress Jamuna, a close friend and another legendary actress of Telugu Cinema, shared her doubts on capabilities off the team and Keerthy Suresh to be able to perform as Savitri.
The team decided to give it as much authenticity as they can and the movie is fast progressing towards the finish line. The major portions have been shot already and the team is now looking to complete the post production works and remaining shoot by mid-April. They first thought the movie will be ready by March and announced the release date as 29th March. But then it took some more time to complete post production works ang hence they released the new date as 9th May. Dulquer Salmaan, Mohan Babu, Samantha Akkineni are also playing crucial roles in the movie.
