Love Story: An elegant representation of sensitive issues

The much-awaited, and highly anticipated Love Story, directed by Sekhar Kammula, and featuring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi in the leading roles, was released yesterday, to a thunderous response at the theatres. Sekhar Kammula is known for his feel-good movies, one that put a smile on the audiences long after the film is over.

Love Story, while not swaying far away from Sekhar’s trademark, deals with a lot more the deeper you get into the film. From the very beginning of the film, the issue of the caste system is predominantly highlighted, and the same sentiment is carried forward for the rest of the film. While the resolution for this problem was given to us in a very subtle manner much earlier in the film, the climax, and the events leading up to it, are something that the director should be very much appreciated for.

Sekhar Kammula dealt with a highly sensitive issue such as child abuse and molestation in a very elegant and graceful manner, showing the audiences the long time repercussions of such situations and even showed the audience the necessity of speaking up and against such atrocities, as not speaking up of such a thing would result in greater tragedies, as the perpetrator would go unpunished.
