Lokesh Kanagaraj Speaks Up About Quitting Social Media

Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj, celebrated for his blockbuster hits such as “Khaidi,” “Master,” and “Vikram,” boasts a fan following rivaling that of leading actors in the South Indian film industry. With millions of followers on social media, Lokesh recently sent shockwaves through his fan base by expressing his intention to quit these platforms.

In a recent interview conducted while promoting his latest film, “Leo,” Lokesh disclosed that he’s disheartened by the extensive hate and trolling he encounters during the fan rivalries that frequently ensue on social media.

He stated, “Fans exhibit excessive enthusiasm in showcasing their favorite heroes’ box office prowess, but this often escalates into vitriol, with fans tagging me in their posts. I receive thousands of such posts daily, and I’m genuinely contemplating leaving social media.”

The director, known for his calm demeanor, explained that the sole reason he continues to maintain a presence on social media is to support newcomers and low-budget films.

He emphasized, “I have no personal interest in social media. It’s a mere two and a half hour entertainment, and fans should return to their regular lives after. There’s no need to treat it as a battlefield.” Despite his reservations about social media, Lokesh’s most recent film, “Leo,” starring Thalapathy Vijay, achieved record breaking opening day collections at the global box office following its release.
