Considering the pandemic circumstances, many Indian films are heading towards the direct to digital release. In the Tamil industry, even star hero Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru had a direct OTT on Amazon Prime last year. After witnessing the dangerous situations prevailing due to Coronavirus, many noted films are gearing up for an OTT release in the next couple of months.
1) Doctor
Starring Sivakarthikeyan and Priyanka Mohan in the lead roles, Doctor was supposed to hit the screens in March but has been postponed due to the Covid second wave cases.
A couple of weeks back news came out that the makers have decided to release the film online and sold the streaming rights to one of the leading platforms Disney Plus Hotstar. The film’s OTT release date is yet to be out.
Written and directed by young filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar, Doctor is bankrolled by Sivakarthikeyan himself. Anirudh Ravichander has composed tunes for the film.
2) Ayngaran
Touted as a social drama, the film has wrapped up its shooting a couple of years back and awaiting release. Recently, the makers have sold the film’s streaming rights to noted OTT platform SonyLIV.
Directed by RaviArasu, the film has music composer turned actor GV Prakash and Mahima Nambiar in the lead roles. The film is expected to be out on the streaming channel soon.
3) F.I.R
Starring Vishnu Vishal, Reba Monica, Raiza Wilson, Manjima Mohan among others in prominent roles, F.I.R digital rights are snapped by Disney Plus Hotstar.
Directed by Manu Anand, the film is said to be a thriller based on some true events. Produced by Shubhra and Aryan Ramesh, the film’s OTT release date will be out in the next couple of weeks.
4. Vaa Deal
Noted Tamil actor Arun Vijay’s Vaa Deal has wrapped up its shooting formalities way back in 2014 itself. Starring Karthika Nair in the female lead role, the film’s release has been postponed repeatedly due to financial issues.
Written and directed by Rathina Shiva, Vaa Deal’s digital and satellite rights are bagged by JSK Film Corporation. According to the Kollywood reports, the film will skip its theatrical release and opt for a direct to digital release soon.
5. Andava Kaanom
Starring Sriya Reddy in the lead role, Andava Kaanom is a women-centric comedy-drama. The film’s shooting formalities are wrapped up in 2019 itself and awaiting theatrical release.
Recently, news came out that the filmmakers are planning for a direct OTT release of the film and started approaching a few leading streaming platforms. C. Velmathi is the film’s director.
6. Tughlaq Durbar
Touted as an intense political drama, Tughlaq Durbar’s digital rights are bagged by Disney Plus Hotstar.
Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Raashi Khanna in the lead roles, the film is directed by Delhi Prasad Deenadayal. SS Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studio has bankrolled the film and its streaming date will be out soon.
7. Boomika
Starring Aishwarya Rajesh and Avantika Vandanapu in the key roles, Boomika marks Aishwarya Rajesh’s 25th film.
Being directed by R Rathindran Prasad, the film’s digital rights are bagged by the reputed OTT platform, Netflix and aiming for a release this year itself.
8. Sumo
Touted as a comedy-drama, Sumo has Shiva, Priya Anand, Yoshinori Tashiro, VTV Ganesh and Yogi Babu in prominent roles.
Directed by SP Hosimin, the film’s streaming rights are acquired by popular OTT platform Amazon Prime Video and planning to release sometime in 2021. Vels Film International and VTV Ganesh bankrolled Sumo jointly.
9. Vellai Yaanai
Directed by Subramaniam Siva, Vellai Yaanai is a rural drama that revolves around a life story of a farmer named Vellai.
Starring Samuthirakani, Athmiya, Saranya Ravi, SS Stanley among others in key roles, the film is gearing up for a direct OTT release on noted digital platform SUN NXT.
