Making films in boxing backdrop in not a new genre for Telugu film industry. Earlier, we have seen a few films which are made in boxing backdrop. As Vijay Deverakonda’s latest film, Liger which is made in boxing backdrop is currently a trending topic, we bring you the list of Telugu films made in martial arts and kick-boxing backdrop.

List of Boxing Backdrop Telugu Movies Till Now

• Thammudu

Released in 1999, Powerstar Pawan Kalyan starrer Thammudu set in boxing backdrop went on to become a superhit at the box office. Arun Prasad is the director for the movie.

• Shivaji

Even before the release of Rajinikanth starrer Shivaji, Tollywood had a film titled, Shivaji that has Sri Hari in the lead role. Set in the boxing drama, Shivaji, a rural drama was released in the year 2000 but failed to impress the audience.

• Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi starring Ravi Teja in the lead role had a theatrical release in the year 2003. This boxing drama was a superhit at the box office.

• Jai

Starring Navdeep, Santhoshi among others in key roles, Jai directed by Teja was released in 2004. Set in boxing backdrop, the film was a flop at the box office.

• Tuntari

Starring Nara Rohit in the lead role, Tuntari set in boxing backdrop had a theatrical release in 2016. Directed by Kumar Nagendra, the film was a flop at the box office.

• Guru

Directed by Sudha Kongara, Guru is an official remake of Madhavan starrer Irudhi Suttru. Released in 2017, Guru starring Venkatesh and Rithika Singh in the lead roles was made in boxing backdrop. The film was a hit at the box office.

• Sarpatta

Starring Kollywood hero Arya in the lead role, Sarpatta is a Tamil film which had a direct-to-OTT release on Amazon Prime Video in 2021 and it’s Telugu dubbed version on the digital platform. The film was set in boxing backdrop and Pa.Ranjit is the director.

• Ghani

Starring Varun Tej in the lead role, Ghani set in boxing backdrop had a theatrical release in April 2022. Directed by Kiran Korrapati, Ghani was a box office flop.

• Liger

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, Liger set in Mixed Martial Arts sport backdrop has Vijay Deverakonda in the lead role. The film had a theatrical release on August 25, 2022.

• Boxing Bhairava

Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi and Thank You fame Sai Sushanth Reddy is acting in a boxing drama titled, Boxing Bhairava. The film is expected to hit the screens soon.
