Ravi Kondala Rao was the first well-known film journalist to become a writer and an actor in Telugu Cinema. He and his wife, Radha Kumari acted as a pair in several pictures and Radha Kumari used to do character roles besides Gummadi Venkateswara Rao, SV Ranga Rao, Relangi, Ramana Reddy, Allu Ramalingaiah as well. As a journalist, Ravi Kondala Rao covered the golden days of Telugu Cinema in 1950’s till 1965. He completely chose to become an actor and writer from 1960’s with the encouragement of writer Mullapudi Venkataramana and director Bapu.
He gave story to films like Brundhavanam, Bhairawadweepam and participated in many films as co-writer & screenplay assistant, executive producer for Vijaya Films. He wrote books about many famous film personalities for people to know about their idols. He used to write a guest column that ran for many years in popular film magazines too. He and his wife settled in Chennai along with the likes of Bapu and Ramana. He lost opportunities due to the in 1990’s but he carried on with his work as a columnist. Chennai media reports say that the legendary actor breathed his last on 28th July, 2020 and cause of the death as cardiac arrest. His wife Radha kumari died long back in 2012.
