A couple of weeks back, we had reported that the makers of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar’s new film, Bell Bottom are planning to skip the film’s theatrical release and opt for direct OTT streaming. News also circulated that the film’s team is already in touch with popular OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar and quoting Rs 150 crore to sell the streaming rights.
But the latest news coming in for Bollywood sources is that as witnessing huge losses with last year premiered Akshay Kumar’s horror drama, Laxmii, Disney management is not ready to invest the above-mentioned huge amount and acquire the rights of Bell Bottom. Reportedly, Disney Plus Hotstar has purchased Laxmii rights by offering a fancy amount of Rs 90 crore and is still suffering from the losses.
Sources confirm that after a bad experience like Laxmii, Disney Plus Hotstar management is not keen on acquiring Bell Bottom rights by offering the producer quoted amount. As of now, negotiations are going on between the both camps and the final deal is expected to be sealed soon.
Being directed by Ranjit Tiwari, Bell Bottom is a spy-thriller set in the 80s time period. Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Lara Dutta among others will be seen in key roles in this film which was shot extensively in Scotland during the second half of 2020.
