Talented actor Satyadev is back with his new film, Krishnamma, which was released today. The film is presented by director Koratala Siva. Read our detailed review here.
Krishnamma Story: Bhadra (Satyadev), Koti (Meesala Lakshman), and Shiva (Krishna Teja Reddy) are three close friends. As Siva falls in love with Meena and wants to help her mother with her treatment, the three friends plan one last smuggling act and get caught by the cops. During the investigation the cops lure them to accept a new case in order to come out of the jail early. Not knowing the actual motive of the case, the three friends say yes and land into deeper problems with a massive case. How they came out is the basic story of the film.
Performances: Satyadev is a solid performer and we all are aware of it. Once again, he delivers a superb performance and is the main star of the film. He does well as a guy from Vijayawada, and his screen presence is good. Meesala Lakshman is also impressive in his role. The comedy timing he has is also apt for the film. Krishna Teja Reddy is also a good support to the cast. Nanda Gopal, as the cop, is fine in his role. Athira Raj, as the female lead was okay.
Technical Aspects: Kaala Bhairava composed the music, but his songs are ordinary. It looks like he had no interest in the project, and his BGM is also weak. The camerawork is amazing, as is the production design and the Vijayawada backdrop. The editing was fine, and so was the screenplay. It could have been a bit better, though. The dialogues and other technical aspects were fine in Kirshnamma.
Analysis: Krishnamma is the story of three friends who are orphans and get tangled in a case that leads them into deeper problems. But to understand all this, one needs to sit through the slow first half. Things get interesting only in the mid part where the actual agenda of the film is revealed. In a way, Krishnamma is a revenge drama but is treated like a cop thriller and showcases the bad deeds the cops do to frame innocents in massive cases.
The first half an hour of the film is dull as it showcases the bond and lifestyle between the friends. The romantic tracks are also not established properly. But once the film enters its core plot, things start making a lot of sense. The fight sequence could have been elevated a bit more to create more drama in the film. The director, Gopala Krishna, narrated the film on a very realistic note as the film is devoid of all the commercial elements.
One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the dull screenplay. A more rip in the proceedings would have made a world of good to the film. The pace of the film is slow and despite having so much scope to elevate the mass moments, the director failed to do so and made the film look simple. Krishnamma is neither good nor bad and ends in a no man’s land. It takes time to enter into its world, and once it does, the last quarter is quite good.
Verdict: Overall, Krishnamma has a good backdrop and a sensible storyline. But the pace is slow, and the narration is jaded in places. If you ignore the dull phase in the beginning, Krishnamma ends as a passable watch.
