Know How Much Sales Tax would Anushka Sharma Pay!!

The sales department confirmed that Anushka Sharma, the wife of Virat Kohli, must pay 2.8 crore in sales tax.

Anushka Sharma, a Bollywood actress, is undoubtedly one of the best dressed in the business and a great role model for many ladies. She is a wonderful artist as well as a devoted wife and mother. She is currently in the news after being told to pay tax because she is the original owner of all copyrights for creative performances.

Importantly, Anushka has requested tax assessment years between 2012 and 2016 under the Maharashtra Value Added Act and has filed four petitions contesting four decisions made by the Deputy Commissioner of Sales Tax. According to the actress’s petition, the evaluating officer incorrectly determined that she had obtained copyrights by endorsing products, hosting award ceremonies, or just attending them, when in fact the producer always retained ownership of the copyrights. The sales division has now addressed her claim, though.

According to a report in Free Press Journal, the department has now argued before the Bombay High Court that the actress is liable to pay 5% sales tax as she is the first owner of copyrights on her artistic performances at award functions or stage shows. This is in response to Anushka Sharma’s argument against the Sales Tax Department’s order. She does this by giving the event producers this copyright. According to the Department, “The petitioner is providing her services and earning income through a contract for services (that is, she is not employed by anybody). Therefore, under the Copyright Act, she is the first owner of the copyrights created in her artistic performance.”

The affidavit also states that, “Her copyrights get transferred to the client company for commercial purposes, and she receives valuable consideration. Hence, it is covered under the definition of Sale under the MVAT Act.”

Also, it was indicated that Anushka Sharma might request a revision by filing an appeal, but she couldn’t submit a formal petition to the high court immediately.

Today, the court will hear the case. According to the argument, the sales tax demand for assessments 2012–2013 and 2013–2014 was 1.2 and 1.6 crores, respectively.
