Lyricist Karunakaran says the song he wrote for Magudam will be filled with hope. This marks his third collaboration with Vishal after Chakra and Veeramae Vaagai Soodum.
He said that Vishal personally asked him to write the song. Karunakaran began his journey in cinema with “Kadhal Vandhale” from Vallavan composed and sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Talking about his process he said he mostly writes on paper and sometimes uses voice notes. He believes the first idea that comes with a tune is often the best but the director’s choice matters most.
Working with Ilaiyaraaja, he said, is the biggest highlight of his career. His first song with the legend was “Enna Nadakkudhu” from Maamanithan. For him writing for Ilaiyaraaja is greater than winning an Oscar. He also thanked Yuvan Shankar Raja for making that collaboration possible. Later, he worked again with Ilaiyaraaja on “Head Up High” from Custody.
Along with writing, Karunakaran has also acted in films. He appeared in Arun Vijay’s Malai Malai and will next be seen in Arya’s Mr. X, directed by his friend Manu Anand.
