What is it like directing a film while being its lead man, a boxer at that? And that movie is produced by one’s spouse? Kartikeya Gummakonda is enjoying that phase now. The macho actor is set to return to the big screen with COMEBACK (yes, that’s the title), a project that introduces him in a new role as both actor and director. Kartikeya Creative Works is gearing up with this one. His wife, Lohitha Reddy, is producing this 2027 theatrical release.
Kartikeya has built a strong reputation as one of Tollywood’s promising performers. His breakthrough came with the Ajay Bhupathi-directed RX 100 in 2018, where played that embittered lover boy who got manipulated into ruination. Later in his career, he took on negative roles in Ajith’s Valimai and Nani’s Gang Leader. He decided to pause and is now making a comeback with, well, COMEBACK.
COMEBACK marks his return as a lead actor after a gap of more than two years. The thoughtful glimpse presents the film as an emotionally charged boxing drama built around a man whose past has become a subject of speculation. The suggestion that his return could be a “suicide mission” hints at the dangers surrounding his comeback and suggests that he may be stepping into a fight with very little left to lose. The visuals then shift to Kartikeya, who is seen skipping and training in the boxing ring. He is certainly playing his career’s most physically demanding part.
Vijay Bulganin’s background score in the movie is expected to add energy and tension. Jagadeesh Cheekati is overseeing the cinematography. Surya Akella is the creative director. The film’s crew also features Kalyan Suryaprakash as editor, Shilpa Tanguturu as costume designer, S Kishore Macha as line producer, and Sudheer Telaprolu as executive producer.
