Karan Johar has addressed the backlash over his recent comments about Homebound. His statement on balancing art and commerce sparked heavy trolling with even director Neeraj Ghaywan taking a dig at him. Karan has now clarified that his words were misinterpreted and requested people not to misquote him.
Homebound produced by Karan Johar and starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor received huge appreciation at international film festivals but didn’t perform well at the Indian box office.
On a podcast Karan explained that while he will always prioritize artistic creativity, commercial considerations are also important for growth and profitability.
On Insta Karan stated that Homebound remains one of his proudest films praising the sensitive performances and direction. He also highlighted efforts to reach larger global audiences and noted the steadily increasing domestic viewership.
The film which tells the story of two friends aspiring to become police officers, love, social issues and caste and even earned a 9 minute standing ovation at Cannes.
