Recently, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director Karan Johar acknowledged that he had made a mistake.
Karan Johar is a well-known producer and director in the country. His previous production credits include a number of box office successes, and his upcoming movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani marks his comeback to directing. The director, who is now promoting the movie, has drawn flak for the plot and a few misogynistic passages in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a 1998 movie starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Recently, the filmmaker criticised his own work and admitted that the movie encouraged inappropriate gender politics.
In 1998, KJo made his filmmaking debut with KKHH. He assumed control of his production company, Dharma, in 2004 after his father passed away unexpectedly.
His first film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, was a huge success and received years of praise for the director. Rahul, Anjali, and Tina, who were portrayed by SRK, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji, were involved in a love triangle in the film. Anjali is more of a tomboy, but Rahul marries Tina because of her elegance. But when Tina passes away from a disease, she urges her daughter to bring Rahul and Anjali back together because they have always been in love. The movie’s premise, which depicts Rahul falling for Anjali once she started donning gorgeous sarees and a long hairstyle, has come under fire on numerous occasions.
Karan Johar addressed the issue and criticism and said the movie “propagated wrong gender politics.” He said, “I feel like I have grown as an individual, The first film that I made, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I firmly believe that the gender politics of that film was all wrong. It is propagating incorrect gender politics, there is a lot of surfacesness in that film. Of course, there is nostalgia so you love it, but you don’t scratch the surface of the film and see that what Rahul is doing is actually not what I would want all the Rahuls in the audience, or all the boys in general, to do.”
To tease Karan, Ranveer Singh said, “The movie won’t work in a “woke” period.” In response to the actor, Karan Johar commented on how the movie was portrayed. It’s not about being woke, the director remarked. The movie is a powerful illustration of how the dynamic we portray in movies now might apply to belief. Rahul was saying a lot of inappropriate stuff. He said, ‘Hum ek bar pyaar karte hai’ but he got in love twice. He said, ‘Hum ek bar shaadi karte hai’ he got married twice. He was contradicting himself throughout the film.”
