Kabir Bedi Talks About his Open Marriage and Love for Parveen Babi

Recall when Kabir Bedi disclosed how he divorced Protima Gupta after six years of marriage because he fell in love with Parveen Babi.

Kabir Bedi, a seasoned actor in Bollywood, has frequently been in the news due to his personal life. In 2016, the actor, who had previously wed Promita Gupta, wedded Parveen Dusanj for a third time. He got married to Nikki in 1992 and separated from her in 2005 after divorcing Protima in 1974. However, did you know that while he was still married to Protima, he had fallen in love with Parveen Babi, one of Bollywood’s most popular actresses?

The actor wrote about his open marriage to Gupta in his book “Stories I Must Tell: The Emotional Journey of an Actor,” which was published in 2021. He also talked about how he told Gupta he loved Parveen Babi and expressed his desire to leave their union and be with the actress.

Kabir Bedi remarked, “Our open marriage may have seemed like a good idea at first,” when speaking openly about the same. It ultimately only made me more anxious. We had become less intimate as a result of it. I didn’t experience the kind of love, compassion, and sharing that I required. I was unable to provide it, either. The previous magic was lost. I felt sad, empty, and alone. That gap was filled by Parveen Babi. She had fair skin, long black hair, and captivating dark eyes, making her a ravishingly gorgeous actress. I had always thought of her as “Danny Denzongpa’s girlfriend” up until that point.

Further added, “He was a good-looking Sikkimese actor, two years younger than me, a year older than Parveen. In the years ahead, he would become a highly successful villain in Bollywood and be nominated for many Filmfare Awards. Parveen began her rapid rise to stardom during their four years together. Her living openly with Danny, wearing jeans and smoking in public, had given her a bohemian image in India. But, morally, she was a conservative Gujarati girl. While the rest of the Juhu gang talked about the ‘free s*x’ preaching of Guru Osho, she believed in sexual fidelity. It’s what I was looking for when I fell in love with her.”

Then Kabir Bedi explained how he told Protima about his feelings for Parveen Babi, and she responded by telling him, “Please go, our open marriage is over!”

“There was no simple method to inform Protima of the news. I casually remarked, “I’m going over to Parveen’s tonight,” as she entered. She recited “Parveen’s!” with amazement. She was calculating what had to have happened, I could see it. “But I just got here,” you say. Why not stay at least tonight? I gave a headshake. No, I have to spend every night with her, including tonight. She suddenly grasped how drastically our relationship had altered. She took a long breath and then turned to face me. Do you care about her? Not without some sadness, I nodded. What about her? Not without some sadness, I nodded. She asked, raising the pitch of her voice, “Does she love you?”

Yes, I mumbled while wanting to cry. I was aware that I was terminating a relationship after six turbulent years in which we had gone through life-altering experiences together, both joyous and miserable, moral and immoral. But I didn’t want to appear weak. I had to the guts to put an end to it. I gave her a parting hug while holding her by the shoulders. She clutched to me and sobbed uncontrollably. She exhaled loudly before sitting back down on the bed. She spoke firmly and with tears in her eyes, “Please leave me alone now.” “Leave me be.” Please leave! An excerpt from his book stated, “Our ‘open marriage’ was finished.
