Prime Video’s ‘Jubilee Day’- Day Long Celebration of Classic Hindi Cinema

The filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane and Prime Video have announced “Jubilee Day,” a daylong celebration of timeless Hindi film classics.

A daylong celebration of ageless Hindi film classics has been dubbed “Jubilee Day” by director Vikramaditya Motwane and Prime Video.

Following the grand trailer debut of the Amazon Original series Jubilee, Prime Video and Vikramaditya Motwane, the series’ creator and director, today unveiled a new project called “Jubilee Day” — a day-long film festival that will revive the enchantment of classic blockbusters on the big screen. At PVR ICON in Andheri, Mumbai, on April 6, starting at noon, four timeless hits—Mr. and Mrs. 55 (1955), Pyaasa (1957), Aradhana (1969), and Kati Patang (1971)—will be shown.

Jubilee, which is set in the early days of the Indian film industry, is both a joyful hymn to cinema and an exciting story centred on a diverse cast of characters as they pursue their dreams and their loves. An offshoot of this celebration is “Jubilee Day,” which features “jubilee hits”—classic movies that once enjoyed successful runs in theatres of up to 25 weeks (silver jubilee) to 50 weeks (golden jubilee). All audiences will be able to enjoy the uncommon opportunity to see these classics.

Vikramaditya Motwane said, “I have grown up watching and admiring timeless and classic films. Even before I became a filmmaker, movies have always played a pivotal part in my life. I have always wanted the audience to have a glimpse of the charming world of the yesteryears of the Hindi film industry, which I have done through the series and I felt ‘Jubilee Day’ was a wonderful idea to strengthen that effort to pay our humble tribute to this magical industry where we work. We are thankful to Mr. Sushilkumar Agrawal of Ultra Media & Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Mr. Ashim Samanta for supporting this initiative and helping us bring these milestone films from the history of Indian cinema to audiences. I am hoping for audiences to take back some of the old-world charm of movies with this day-long festival.”
