Jacqueline Fernandez, a Bollywood actress who is one of the defendants in a money laundering case involving Rs 200 crore, received significant relief from the court when it changed the terms of her travel ban.
Actress Jacqueline Fernandez, renowned for roles in films like Murder 2, Kick, Race 2, and others, is one of the defendants in a Rs 200 crore money laundering case. Con man Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who has already received a conviction, is the primary suspect in this case. A Delhi court has reportedly decided to change the terms of Jacqueline’s bail after she was granted it last year. It appears that there are less limitations on her travelling abroad.
Jacqueline has reportedly had significant relief in the money laundering case as a result of the modification of her release conditions. The court will allow Jacqueline to leave the country without prior approval as long as she notifies the court and the Enforce Directorate (ED) three days before her departure. Special Judge Shailendra Malik noted in his decision that the actress had to travel frequently around the world for job purposes.
Jacqueline’s previous requirement to obtain permission in advance to travel abroad may have limited her work prospects, the judge noted, even though she had never broken any of her bail conditions. Jacqueline, a Sri Lankan national, has lived in India since 2009. The court noted that she had adhered to all of her bail conditions and had made timely income tax payments.
Jacqueline had previously appealed to the court, arguing that the time-consuming processes required to secure court authorisation for travel frequently caused her to incur financial losses and reputational damage. She also said that as a well-known artist, she frequently took part in films, award presentations, and other events, all of which were crucial to her profession and her source of income. The Roy actress described instances in which filmmakers and influential figures in the industry have decided to collaborate with other artists as a result of her drawn-out approval process.
Her application served as the foundation for the decision to change her restriction. On November 15, 2022, she was granted bail, and the trial for her case started in July. She was named as an accused in the case in the second additional charge sheet that the ED recently submitted. Both Nora Fatehi, an actress and dancer, and Jacqueline have recorded their testimony.
