Rajni and Shankar’s 2.0 has been in the making for three years now. After I, Shankar took on this huge film and he even started shooting in 2016, itself. Then, the producers announced the release for Diwali, 2017. The movie now is not even confirmed to release for 2019. Nobody is unable to pinpoint what is the cause for this huge delay as the shoot finished in 2017 and even the audio with 2 songs released in 2017 only.
The buzz about the film in Kollywood media is that Lyca Productions is trying to get the movie out as precisely as Shankar envisioned it. Director Shankar expressed his displeasure over the CGI work done by two companies in Los Angeles, so, the production house has decided to shift to another company and as it takes a lot of time to start from scratch, the delay is inevitable and even cost of production has increased by another 100 crores, it seems.
Producers on one side are confident that the star power of Rajni and imagination of Shankar, coupled by combination craze with Akshay Kumar as an added advantage, the movie can recover the costs from the Theatrical run. Still, with the delay and the songs being not so popular even though composed by AR Rahman, the interest in the audience about the project could go drastically down by the time it releases. Anyways, Kaala, the most forgettable box office performer of Rajnikanth also touched 100 crores at Tamil Nadu Box Office, if the movie, 2.0 turns out to be good, the records could just be unimaginable.
