A small film titled, IPL( It’s Pure Love) starring Vishwa Karthikeya, Nitin Nash, and Archana Gautham in lead roles has hit the silver screens today. Let’s see how it fares.

Story: IPL opens with a terrorism-related issue. Quickly turns into a love drama between Varun( Vishwa Karthikeya) and his boss princess Janhvi ( Archana Gautham). As a subplot, Varun’s friend Sriram’s love track will also be showcased. Aspiring cricketer Sriram will be suspended during the under-19 Ranji Trophy due to his aggressive behavior with fellow cricket. On the other hand, the love track between Janhvi and Varun set in a corporate backdrop has a twist. How does the launch of a cricket league named Andhra Tigers affect the lives of Varun and Janhvi? How is the terrorism topic interconnected with the IPL team and subsequently to our nation, forms the rest of the story.

Performances: Looks-wise, Vishwa Karthikeya is good and has a decent screen presence. His performance is okay but has to improve his dialogue delivery skills in future projects.

Heroine Archana Gautham gets a meaty role as a leading businesswoman. Her acting in the given purposeful role adds weightage to the proceedings in both halves. The chemistry between Archana and Vishwa is showcased beautifully in a romantic track.

Nitin Nash is okay in his key role as the second lead actor. His acting is decent but the character has not been presented with proper detailing. Kinnera as Nitin Nash’s girlfriend is glamorous on the screen.

Other supporting artists such as Suman Tanikella Bharani, Posani Krishna Murali, Amit, Madhusudhan Rao, and Avantika are fine in their respective roles. Noted comedians Racha Ravi, Prithiveeraj, and Ram Prasad of Jabardasth are wasted as their comedy fails to click.

Technicalities: The music composed by Vengi can be termed as one of the major highlights of the film. His composition has a fresh vibe to it. While the songs are passable, he did a decent job with the background score.

The cinematography by Anand AK is alright as he tried to present the film on a captivating note JP’s editing work is okay.

The artwork by Venkatesh is good. Production values by Beeram Srinivas’ Ankita Media House are fine

Analysis: Suresh Lankalapalli directs IPL. While the director’s idea of interconnecting the cricket IPL game with the terrorism-related issue is good but he failed to execute the film with good characterizations. Lacks of proper character detailing and a dull screenplay without any exciting portions are major minuses for the film.

Instead of wasting the entire first half with some dragged and unengaging love scenes, the director would have focused on writing good episodes at the scripting stage itself. To summarize, IPL is a love drama that has an outdated presentation and unengaging narrative making it a below-average fare.

Verdict: Wasted opportunity!
